A deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department was injured early this morning after a squad car he was operating was hit by another vehicle.
According to information released by the sheriff’s office Sunday, the crash occurred at 5 a.m. on Interstate 94, near County Road F.
A vehicle traveling eastbound on the interstate also was involved in the crash.
The deputy was injured and both the deputy and the driver of the eastbound vehicle were transported from the scene for medical evaluation, the release stated.
The driver was the only individual in the eastbound vehicle.
A preliminary investigation showed that the deputy was in a parked squad car when the crash occurred. The deputy was providing scene security for a tow truck operator who was removing a semi-truck from the median when the squad car was struck, according to the release.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Ixonia EMS and Fire department, and Sullivan EMS and Fire department.
The crash is under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol, the release noted.
