Letter to the editor:
In 2019, the PBS news program Frontline aired a documentary entitled “The Abortion Divide. ” Much of it was filmed at an abortion clinic in Philadelphia. In one segment, we follow a clinic employee into a lab. Inside, other workers are examining the remains of the day’s abortions, piecing together the bloody, broken bodies to make sure nothing has been left behind. The abortionist admits that, after nine or ten weeks, “You do see small bits of fetal tissue that is recognizable.” Meaning arms, legs, feet.
But the most disturbing film clip comes at the end. A white mother, carrying twins hugs their Black father goodbye in the waiting room. Next, we see her on the table being prepped for the “procedure.” “Nervous?” asks the attendant. “No,” she replies. And then, we hear the chug of the suction aspiration machine. When it ceases, the abortionist cheerfully chirps, “Alright, we are all done!”
To this day, these images haunt me. The routine, business like killing of these two biracial human beings makes me sick. I have just seen a snuff film. Blood and death. After all the sign waving and slogan shouting, this is the reality of abortion. The fact that it is routine, business like, and takes place behind closed doors makes it no less evil, no less tragic.
