Tomorrow’s Hope, Inc., has joined with Jefferson County businesses and is counted among 23 organizations that have taken steps to become a dementia friendly business.
According to information released by the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Jefferson County, steps taken include dementia friendly training.
At Tomorrow’s Hope, four of the organization’s five board members have recently undergone training.
According to the release, training includes learning the role of a dementia care specialist, dementia basics, and strategies and tips to help communicate with those living with dementia who are active members of Jefferson County and surrounding area communities.
“This includes tips on how to recognize dementia symptoms in individuals. They also learned more about the Dementia Friendly Community Network which meets the third Monday of every month in Fort Atkinson,” the release stated.
Tomorrow’s Hope, Inc., Executive Director Todd Wiedenhoeft, took the initiative and reached out to Jefferson County Dementia Care Specialist Tonya Runyard to enquire about the training, the release noted.
“We found the training to be very informative and I’m trying to think up ways to encourage local businesses to become dementia friendly. We look forward to hearing what the groups of patients and caregivers state are areas of need. We really want to do something impactful this year,” Wiedenhoeft was quoted as saying in the release.
