According to scanner audio recorded at https://garchives1.broadcastify.com/34743/20210516/202105160224-905691-34743.mp3?fbclid=IwAR3ReRThwYxWV93yiIaGZNElcNI4fO-f8HRA3CyVlSfpQndG6J62RhfSL8s, and shared by a resident on a community Facebook page, a Jefferson County deputy alerted police to a Volkswagen Jetta traveling towards the city at about 124 miles per hour. The vehicle was southbound on the State Highway 26 Bypass and entered the city traveling north on Janesville Avenue continuing at a speed near or in excess of 100 miles per hour.

According to the Fort Atkinson Police Department log, the Fort Atkinson police reported the incident as beginning near Janesville Avenue and Hackbarth Road.

Officers in the recorded audio described the subject as slowing for a curve before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into the Fort HealthCare clinic building.

Audio described the subject as a “lone male driver.”

The subject was taken into custody and transported by Ryan Brothers ambulance service.

Tire marks at the scene indicate that the northbound car jumped the curb on the east side of the street and crossed the sidewalk and grass along the west side of the Glacial River Trail. It then crossed West Milwaukee Avenue and the sidewalk before entering the clinic parking lot and striking the building.
