Two vehicle collision results in death of SUV driver in town of Oakland 

Sheriff Paul Milbrath, in a release Tuesday, stated that on Jan. 9, a two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of an SUV driver.

According to the release, the crash occurred at 5:40 a.m.

When deputies responded they found that an SUV and semi-truck had collided on State Highway 18 near the intersection of Hope Lake Road in the town of Oakland.

The release states that the preliminary investigation at the scene showed that a semi-truck was traveling eastbound on State Highway 18 and an SUV was traveling westbound on State Highway 18.

“As the vehicles approached each other, a head-on collision occurred. Road conditions are a contributing factor in the crash. The drivers of the vehicles were the lone occupants,” the release read. 

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.  The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene, the release reported. 

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Cambridge Fire, Jefferson County Medical Examiner, and Jefferson County Emergency Communications for traffic control.

The incident is still being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the release concluded.
