The United Way of Jefferson and North Walworth Counties has announced that it is holding its annual “Season of Caring” campaign.
This year’s theme is titled: “We are ALL the United Way.”
According to a news release, the Season of Caring will consist of six different “small missions,” performed across a six-week period beginning Monday, Oct. 3.
Missions are as follows: Week 1: join our mission, Week 2: donate an hour, Week 3: show appreciation, Week 4: give your support, Week 5: connect with others, and Week 6: treat yourself.
The release states: “There are no set requirements for completing each mission and there is no signup or registration fee for participating.”
The United Way of Jefferson and North Walworth Counties Executive Director Elizabeth Ellis-Bols said within the release that the “greatest way” communities can join with the United Way is “to generously spread kindness and caring power to as many people as they can.
“Our communities have faced very difficult times these past several years, so we want our campaign efforts focused not only on fundraising, but on taking care of one another and showing our appreciation. We want to help people recognize the importance of community engagement and give them easy opportunities to become more involved.”
While participating in the missions, Ellis-Bols encouraged participants to “get creative and express themselves.”
Information and a list of suggestions to help participants determine ways to engage with missions also will be made available through the United Way, she said.
Signing up for the United Way’s newsletter was among suggestions made within the release.
“Mostly, we want people to remember that small, simple acts of kindness can have a huge ripple effect across communities. And I think we can all agree that our communities need as much caring power and support as possible right now,” Ellis-Bols was quoted as saying in the release.
Individual community members can participate in the Season of Caring and the United Way encourages workplaces to join in and use the program as a team-building exercise, according to the release.
Other suggestions include using a mission to create a fun family activity.
“The one request from United Way is that folks share their participation and encourage others to join,” the release stated.
“We have created specific hashtags for the week that we ask people to use anytime they post their participation on social media. We’d also love for United Way to be tagged in any postings so we can help share the information,” Ellis-Bols noted.
Details for the Season of Caring program, including instruction sheets for each individual day, hashtag details and Facebook images, among other information, can be found on the Season of Caring page: https://uwjnwc.com/events/week-of-caring/.
Participants are encouraged to share their acts of caring by sharing to their social media pages and using the following hashtags: #uwjnwc #seasonofcaring #2022campaign #wearealltheunitedway.
