The Virtual Book Club will be reading “Mom’s Gone Missing” for seven weeks starting June 3.
The book club will be led by dementia care specialists in La Crosse, Jefferson, and Walworth Counties and is open to anyone providing care or support for someone living with dementia, from caregivers, professionals and family to friends and the general public.
Residency in Jefferson County is not required.
It will be led by dementia care specialists of the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Jefferson, La Crosse and Walworth Counties.
Written by Susan Marshall, “Mom’s Gone Missing” is a story of a daughter’s experience with a father’s decade-long Alzheimer’s journey, a mother’s lightning-fast dementia decline, and both of their deaths. It takes readers inside a family’s experience and walks them through the practical and sometimes mundane steps taken to prepare for and ultimately accompany parents in death.
It invites readers in, encourages them to find familiar thoughts and emotions, and provides compassion for their worst moments, rawest reactions, and urge to laugh in sometimes inopportune moments.
The Virtual Book Club will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursdays starting June 3, and continue on June 10, 17 and 24 and July 1, 8 and 15. It will be conducted through Zoom, but a call-in option will be available.
“Mom’s Gone Missing” is available through local libraries, including the Dwight Foster Public Library in Fort Atkinson; book stores, Amazon; and the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Jefferson County.
