Voters approve district referendum

By a thin margin of just 79 votes, the School District of Fort Atkinson operational referendum was approved Tuesday by voters.

The full unofficial tally with eight precincts reporting in Jefferson County and one in Rock County was 2,363 votes cast in favor of the referendum and 2,284 votes cast against.

Unofficial tallies reported on the Jefferson and Rock county websites are as follow:

In Jefferson County: town of Cold Spring, yes: 14, no: 15; town of Hebron, yes: 82, no: 177; town of Jefferson, yes: 48, no: 60; town of Koshkonong, yes: 457, no: 573; town of Oakland, yes: 57, no: 74; town of Palmyra, yes, 2, no: 3; town of Sumner, yes: 63, no: 88, and in the city of Fort Atkinson: yes: 1,637, and no, 1,290.

In Rock County, in the town of Lima, tallies were as follow: yes: 3 and no, 4.

The question approved by voters reads as follows: Be IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Fort Atkinson, Jefferson and Rock Counties, Wisconsin, that the final school district budget beginning with the 2024-25 school year shall include an amount not to exceed $6,500,000 each year on a non-recurring basis for a period of three years through the 2026-27 school year in excesss of the revenue limits imposed by Section 121.91 of the Wisconsin Statutes for the purpose of paying District operating costs. Question: Shall the School Board of the School District of Fort Atkinson be authorized to exceed the revenue limit under Section 121.91 of the Wisconsin Statutes beginning with the 2024-25 school year by an amount not to exceed $6,500,000 each year on a non-recurring basis for a period of three years through the 2026-27 school year for the purpose of paying District operating costs as provided in the foregoing resolution?
