Whitewater area waterway cleanup to be held at Cravath lakefront Park

The City of Whitewater Department of Public Works has announced that it will be hosting an event sponsored by Protect Wisconsin Waterways.

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 to 10 a.m., at Cravath Lakefront Park, 341 S. Fremont St.

According to the release, a goal of the program is to educate the public about the impact of stormwater on area waterways.

Whitewater is a member of the Rock River Stormwater Group.

Residents of Whitewater are encouraged to take an active role to help better their community by joining the annual cleanup of the Rock River and its tributaries, the release stated.

The upcoming event is part of the Protect Wisconsin Waterways campaign to help spread awareness of actions individuals can take to help protect their local lakes and rivers, the release noted.

Protect Wisconsin Waterways has been offering cleanup events since 2016. Each year, efforts made by community members have helped to remove as many as 50 bags of trash and litter from in and around area lakes and rivers. Bottles, wrappers, tires, traffic cones and PVC pipes are among items which have been removed from area waterways during past cleanup events, the release continued.

Area waterways are home to a variety of wildlife and provide recreational places to fish, boat, kayak and swim.
