Whitewater city officials have announced dates when the city’s Department of Public Works will be collecting leaf and yard waste.
Dates are as follow:
Residents may place their bagged yard waste on the curb for collection until Oct. 28.
Residents may place their bagged yard waste on the curb no earlier than Saturday, November 5, for collection during the weeks of: Nov. 7-11, and Nov. 14-18.
All bags must be brought to the curb for final collection by Nov. 14, the release states.
“Bio-Bags” left outside in the elements during the winter months will not be collected during the spring collection, the release noted.
Dates may be subject to change in the event of snow events where snow has accumulated during the aforementioned dates, the release noted.
Residents who miss the Nov. 18 deadline will find a dumpster where bags may be deposited at the city’s garage, 150 E. Starin Rd., made available between Nov. 21 and Dec. 2, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The facility will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25.
Spring collection will be dependent on weather conditions, the release stated.
According to the release, yard waste is defined as leaves, weeds, grass clippings, and yard and garden debris. Yard waste must be bagged in 30-gallon or smaller biodegradable, clear or transparent bags only. Yard waste will not be collected if not property bagged or placed in non-transparent or black bags.
The city offers Bio-Bags, in the fall only, at the Finance Department. Residents may also use the compost site to dispose leaf and yard waste. The compost site is open Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Wednesdays, 2 to 6 p.m.
The compost site will close for the season Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 6:00 p.m.
Residents requesting brush collection can call 473-0560 to make an appointment for pickup on Tuesdays.
The release states that ordinance Chapter 12.08 – Street Obstructions, Section: 12.08.010 stipulates the following: Residents are prohibited from depositing any yard waste debris on city streets or right of ways other than city of Whitewater designated days.
