Policy and programming

According to the release, since its founding in 1920, the league’s reputation as a trusted source for voter information has rested on its nonpartisanship policy, which, states, the release noted, that the league “does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.”

The release also quoted from the league’s diversity, equity and inclusion policy, stating that it “protects the league’s good name as an organization, ‘fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice.’”

The release continued: “These two policies represent our core values. But, has our league fully internalized what it means to be a diverse, equitable and inclusive organization? This meeting (on Jan. 20) is designed to answer that question.”

The program planned for Jan. 20 is meant to conclude with “actionable takeaways,” according to the release, and will be used as a platform to announce the league’s new book club.

The club, the release stated, is designed to continue the discussion of “meaning, impact, value, need and (the) urgency” of diversity, equity and inclusion.
