The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library in Whitewater has announced a variety of activities taking place during December.
• Craft Times in the Community Room are slated for 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, for kids and 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, for adults.
No registration is required
Persons unable to attend may stop by the library to pick up a take-and-make kit and craft at home.
• “The James Webb Space Telescope: Seeing Farther” will be presented in the Community Room Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. and again at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.
The presentation by Dennis Roscoe, NASA solar system ambassador, will be the same on both dates, so attendees should register for just one at whitewaterlibrary.org
According to information released by the library, the James Webb Space Telescope is going to be the Marvel Superhero that discovers how the first galaxies were built over 13 billion years ago. With its infrared eyes, Webb will be able to see through interstellar dust and clouds and allow humankind to witness the birth of stars and planets.
Is there life on planets beyond our own solar system? Webb might find the answer by analyzing the atmospheres of exoplanets.
This program is geared toward school-aged children and their families.
NASA@ My Library is based upon work funded by NASA under cooperative agreement
• Stress-Less Saturday will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the library’s Community Room.
No registration is required.
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to hang out and de-stress at the library. Activities will vary week to week, but there always will be snacks.
On Dec. 18, attendees will be decorating (and eating) cookies.
The library is located at 432 Center St., Whitewater.
