Final arrangements have been made for Memorial Day activities to be held on Monday, May 30, in Whitewater.
The events will be hosted by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5470, according to information supplied by American Legion Post 173 event planner Steve Smith.
According to the release, the parade will form at First Citizen’s Bank parking lot in downtown Whitewater at 10 a.m. and will step off promptly at 10:30 a.m., concluding at the Whitewater Armory, 146 North Street.
In case of inclement weather the parade will be canceled, but the program will be held at the Armory beginning at 11 a.m., the release stated.
Leading the parade will be the combined color guard of William Graham Post 173 and VFW Post 5470.
The Whitewater High School Band and the Whitewater Middle School Band will provide music for the parade.
Retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, Commander of Post 173, and Whitewater native State Sen. Steve Nass will be featured in the parade and also serve during programming as a guest speaker.
Additional parade participants include American Legion and VFW scholarship winners, Badger Boys and Girls State attendees, the American Legion Outstanding Athlete, and the American Legion Americanism award recipient, the release noted.
Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other youth organizations are invited to participate.
The Whitewater American Legion Post is inviting community members to help decorate veterans’ graves in Hillside Cemetery. The post is providing flags and will be gathering near the center entrance to the cemetery. Those interested in helping are asked to assemble, Thursday, May 26, at 5 p.m.
