City of Whitewater officials have released information reminding residents of the city’s brush collection policy.
According to the release, brush is collected every Tuesday. Residents are asked to call the Department of Public Works at 473- 0560 to make an appointment. Appointments must be made by 5 a.m. on the collection day so route scheduling can be completed.
Fees associated with brush collection include charges for curbside chipping. City officials report that the first 10 minutes of chipping services are free if an appointment has been made, followed by a rate of $30 per every 10 minutes, which will be charged to the property owner.
Brush placed on the curb will be collected on the day of appointment. There are no exceptions to the provision, the release stated.
Brush must be brought to the curbside and placed with the cut ends facing the street. Brush cannot be brought to the curbside before 4 p.m. on the Sunday prior to the scheduled Tuesday for collection. Brush must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, the release noted.
Additionally, the release read: “the compost site is open for residents on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.
In order for brush to be accepted, it must be a minimum of 3/4″ and a maximum 6” in diameter. The brush must be a minimum of 3 feet in length, according to the release.
Vines, raked materials, roots and root balls will not be accepted.
Property owners can dispose of vines, raked materials, roots and root balls at the compost site.
“The city reserves the right to not collect brush for just cause,” the release stated.
Brush resulting from major storm damage will be collected at no charge.
“The city will determine and announce emergency storm related brush collections,” the release read.
