Whitewater Storytelling Festival enjoyed success, organizers say

A first-ever Storytelling Festival was held in Whitewater recently. Organizers have announced that the endeavor was a success.

The event kicked off on Friday, Oct. 15, with “campfire stories down by the Cravath Lakefront fire pit,” according to information shared by the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Council.

The event continued through Saturday, Oct. 16, at which time event-goers were treated to tales told by regionally- and nationally-known storytellers.

Crafts for children and participatory workshops were also offered during the event.

The event moved indoors Saturday night, the release continued, where event-goers packed to standing room only the city’s Cultural Arts Center to listen to storytellers and an open mic night was held at a local business, The Book Teller.

The event was a collaborative effort, highlighting the shared resources of “multiple organizations and individuals in the Whitewater community,” the release noted.

Additionally, organizers have announced that they will be holding the event next year, and have longer term plans to continue the event over the next three years.

Sponsors of the event included: Generac, storytelling patrons Rosa Spellman & family, Lavelle Industries, and Fort Community Credit Union.
