‘You Can’t Take It With You’ brings donations to Evergreen

An “Ever Green Benefit” co-hosted by the Fort Atkinson Community Theatre (FACT) took place Saturday afternoon at the Fort Atkinson Club community center.

Activities included an ice cream sundae bar and tree and plant sale. The FACT Summer Singers held a concert of show tunes and its Readers Theatre performed “You Can’t Take It With You.”

Also Saturday, Heart of the City shared tips on supporting the community environmentally and Dr. Carl Whitcomb, a world-renowned horticulturist and ornamental plant breeder whose 40-plus years of research have led to numerous patents and registered trademarks as an inventor and entrepreneur, presented “Myths about Tree Planting.”

He donated a variety of trees that were on sale at the event.

All of the proceeds from the tree sale and event overall went to benefit Evergreen Cemetery, aiding in the ongoing care and stewardship of its trees and landscape. Last July, straight-line winds damaged 60 to 70 trees at the northside cemetery.

According to cemetery grounds supervisor Raughn Ferrell, many trees have been planted since the storm, and he hopes to use future donations toward several long-awaited projects. They include installing a water line to the tower and sealcoating the driveway.

The Fort Atkinson Community Theatre Readers Theatre performs “You Can’t Take It With You” at the “Ever Green Benefit” Saturday at the Fort Atkinson Club. The humorous play tells the story of Alice Sycamore, who falls for someone from a different background, leading to funny chaos when her quirky family meets his snooty parents. It’s all about enjoying life to the fullest.
