Jefferson Parks and Rec slates spring, summer activities; releases guide

The City of Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department has announced the release of its spring/summer activities guide.

According to information released by the department, families are encouraged to go outside this upcoming warm-weather season and will find myriad opportunities to engage with outdoor activities through the newly released 22-page guide.

An electronic version, which is released twice a year, features a host of community programs and activities, the release noted, adding that Jefferson residents and nonresidents of nearly any age, ability and interest level are invited to participate.

“It’s aways busy in the winter months working on fun and exciting programs for the coming season. What you see in the guide is usually a good reflection of the community’s interests, but also what is trending in the world of recreation and leisure in and around the Jefferson community,” Recreation Supervisor Chad Holpfer was quoted as saying in the release.

“The guide will feature many of the traditional programs most community members expect to see, such as youth gymnastics, summer baseball, adult fitness classes and the increasingly popular recreational tree climbing at Riverfront Park. New programs this year include a local baseball hitting camp, and an adult pickleball class offered in conjunction with Premier Tennis of Janesville,” the release stated.

According to the release, an anticipated favorite class will offer instruction about learning to row.

“It’s a unique opportunity” Holpfer said about the program.

The program finds its inception from the creation of the Jefferson County Rowing Club founded last year by Ken Dollhopf, the release noted,

Said Holpfer: “It naturally made sense (that), as a river community, we capitalized on the natural resource in our own backyard.”

Holpfer noted within the release that he felt the class would help draw attention to the second annual WISCO Chase Rowing Regatta, which is planned to take place later this fall. The event draws rowing teams from across the Midwest region, he said.

Registration is open for all spring and summer Jefferson Parks and Recreation programs, the release stated, with the exception of programming for swimmers. Information about the department’s swimming programs will be released in March.
