Eye to the sky: Waiting for Santa (NORAD tracker included)

Fort Atkinson Police Officer Brett Dunkleberger looked out Thursday from the Main Street bridge. Even in the dimming light, he noticed ice was forming on the Rock River.

The path Santa might take to make his arrival into Fort Atkinson wasn’t fully known Thursday, Officer Brett said.

He and the rest of the Fort Atkinson Police Department would keep a good eye on all possible routes so that Santa would arrive safely and on schedule. While ice was forming on the Rock River, Officer Brett said, he didn’t believe it would hinder the reindeer.

Tonight, Christmas Eve, Officer Brett said he and his fellow police officers, along with a network of helpers across the globe, will be assisting the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) generals as they track Santa.

Officer Brett said he couldn’t divulge much information about the work involved with preparing the community for Santa, but, he said, he could assure the children of Fort Atkinson that Santa would find a joyful community waiting for his arrival.

While it’s best for children to go to bed early and leave Santa to his work, for those interested in learning about his flight, the NORAD Santa tracker is available by clicking the picture below.

The generals of NORAD are normally charged, as a United States and Canada bi-national organization, with the missions of aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning for North America. Aerospace warning includes the detection, validation and warning of attack against North America whether by aircraft, missiles or space vehicles, through mutual support arrangements with other commands. But each Christmas, they extend their duties to help keep an eye on Santa as he travels throughout the world. A countdown to Christmas has already been initiated on the NORAD site.

Merry Christmas everyone!
