A meeting of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners and Volunteers will be held Thursday, at 5:30 p.m., at the Jefferson High School greenhouse, 700 W. Milwaukee St., Jefferson, according to a recent news release.
Additionally, the master gardeners group, in partnership with the Jefferson High School FFA, will be holding a flower and vegetable plant sale on two upcoming Fridays, May 10 and 17, and two upcoming Saturdays, May 11 and 18.
The plant sale will be held on the south side of the Jefferson High School, near the athletic field, according to the release.
Those attending the meeting will find a “brief business meeting to review ongoing programs and budget,” with a “main focus” placed on “setting up the donated perennials” for the Friday and Saturday sale, the release continued.
The sale will features a “wide range of locally grown plants,” according to sale organizers.
The annual FFA sale offers flower and vegetable plants that are ready for planting, the release continued. Plants offered for sale are selected by master gardeners and “have done well for them,” the release noted.
Additionally, sale-goers will have an opportunity to ask questions of master gardeners.
The event will be held between 3 and 6 p.m. on the aforementioned Fridays, and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the aforementioned Saturdays.
According to the release, “shade and sun perennials will (include) black pussy willows, day lilies, and brown-eyed Susans,” among others.
Bedding flowers and hanging baskets will be offered for sale.
Proceeds from the sale are used to “support your school and community,” the release stated.
Master gardener meetings, and their associated programming, are free to attend and open to the public.
While Thursday’s meeting is set at a different place and time, meetings traditionally are held on the second Thursday of the month, at 6:30 p.m., at the UW-Extension, Jefferson County, 864 Collins Road, Jefferson. The group does not hold meetings during the months of June, July, August and December.
