The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library in Whitewater has received a sponsorship of $1,000 according to information released by the library.
Monies given to the library, 432 W. Center St., by Generac Power Systems serve to sponsor the library’s Makerspace, defined in the release as “a collaborative space where people can work on projects, create things and explore new technology, programs or software. The Makerspace, also known as ‘Area 431,’ is a place to make, share and explore.”
According to the release, Generac’s contribution to the library’s Makerspace helped fund a Digital Creation Station, a laptop with animation, illustration and audiovisual editing software, headphones, and a microphone, which is available for use by all library visitors, including students.
“We appreciate Generac’s investment in the library and our community,” said Torrie Thomas, Makerspace and programming librarian. “We continuously look for ways to update the programs and services we offer to Whitewater residents,” she added.
Through its community engagement activities, Generac counts STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education among its focuses. Multiple STEM skills can be utilized and developed using the Digital Creation Station, the release continued.
Generac Power Systems operates a manufacturing facility in Whitewater with more than 1,550 employees and is a leading energy technology company, the release stated.
