Jefferson County Sheriff Paul Milbrath has resigned, according to information released by the office of Gov. Tony Evers.
Mibrath’s resignation becomes effective Thursday, Aug. 8.
Additionally, the governor’s office announced that it will be seeking applicants to fill the vacancy.
A new sheriff will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term which ends January, 2027.
Those interested in applying for the position are encouraged to complete a “register of deeds, coroner, and sheriff” application form, which must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3.
The application for appointment can be found on the “Apply to Serve” page on the governor’s website at: www.evers.wi.gov, the release stated.
