Artwork created by 4-year-old kindergarten students in the School District of Fort Atkinson is on display at the Dwight Foster Public Library in Fort Atkinson.
To prepare for the art exhibit in the children’s area titled: “A Tribute to Eric Carle,” each of the district’s 4K teachers chose an art project to complement a book by beloved children’s author and illustrator Eric Carle. The pupils then created their own masterpieces.
The joyful and colorful art display showcases the creativity, hard work, and talent of the district’s youngest students while also celebrating books and reading.
The 4K students, their families and the general public are invited to view the exhibit during regular library hours through Feb. 25. Featured 4K artists should check in at the library’s main service desk to receive a tophat or a tiara, a craft, and a snack for a drop-in art gala experience.
The library is located at 209 Merchants Ave.
“We are so happy to partner with the School District of Fort Atkinson and to welcome students, families, and members of the community to the public library,” Youth Services Librarian Minetta Lippert said.
Rachel Broadhead, paraprofessional in the Purdy Elementary School 4K classroom and lead organizer of the 4K art exhibit, said, “SDFA has a great 4K program and this event is an opportunity to create and build awareness.”
4K Coordinator Penny Bright agreed, saying: “Our mission is to create a positive, enriching 4K program and to provide engaging activities for families. We believe that 4-year-old children should have the opportunity to develop socially and emotionally through developmentally appropriate pre-academic learning and play-based activities.”
4K Registration for the 2022-2023 school year is currently open.

Inspired by “The Mixed-Up Chameleon,” art created by Sofia is on display at the Dwight Foster Public Library. Sophia is a student in Ms. Leila’s 4K class at Jefferson County Head Start, Hebron.
Inspired by “The Very Busy Spider,” art created by Henry is on display at the Dwight Foster Public Library. Henry is a student in Mrs. Yngsdal’s 4K class at Fort Atkinson Preschool and Childcare.
