A Fort Atkinson High School student has received a “perfect 36” on his ACT statewide assessment and three students have received a similar score within subcategories of the test, according to information released Thursday by school district officials.
Henry Gehrenbeck received the perfect 36 overall composite score, the release noted, adding that in the state of Wisconsin approximately 0.19% of students, or some 3,700 students in most recent years, earn a perfect score.
Additionally, three students scored a perfect 36 in a subcategory. They are: Analisa Boschart and Brennan Dempsey, both receiving a perfect score in English, and Ethan Christ, receiving his score in Science.
The ACT test also includes a writing portion that is scored out of a possible 12 points. The following students scored a perfect 12 on this portion of the test: Mackenzie Cramlet and Lily Zangerle, the release stated.
According to the release, the ACT is a state-required standardized assessment designed to measure the academic readiness of 11th-grade students in English, math, reading, science, and writing. The ACT provides benchmarks to categorize students as college-ready or below college-ready. Students can use their ACT scores for various purposes, including college admission, scholarships, course placement, and even NCAA eligibility.
This year, the release read, Fort Atkinson High School staff focused on student effort and efficacy in grades 9-11 as a means for students to understand the purpose of goal setting and trying their best. Fort Atkinson High School staff surveyed students’ willingness and level of commitment to put forth effort and time outside of school and used this information to create differentiated groups for standardized testing success sessions. These sessions provided not only test preparation tools, but also shared information with students about how they can use their ACT score to leverage opportunities for the future, no matter which career path they chose. In addition, students were excited to see an incentive plan that students could achieve by setting personal improvement goals and honoring them for their hard work.
“We are extremely proud of the growth our students have shown from last year into this year. There was incredible support and resources provided to students to do their best and we feel they were much more educated about how their score can impact their future positively along with the tools they needed to be successful. Many thanks goes to the hard working FAHS staff that believes in students to do well and encourages them to put in the hard work and effort to be the best they can,” Fort Atkinson High School Principal Leigh Ann Scheuerell was quoted as saying in the release.
