Whitewater library announces upcoming programs

The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library in Whitewater has announced four upcoming programs with a variety of topics.

• Public Library Book Subscription Service for Teens

YAAASSS (Young Adult Amazingly Awesome Super Subscription Service).

Teens in grades 6-12 may register during May to receive their goodies in June.

Teens who like surprises may request a free YAAASSS Bag from the library to receive a handpicked library book and goodies galore! 

Simply visit whitewaterlibrary.org/teens.asp, fill out the form and wait for them to arrive.

A public library card is required and there is a limit of one box per student per month. Participants must fill out the form each month and will be notified when the bag is ready in mid-June.

• The Whys and Whens of Car Maintenance, 6 p.m. Thursday, May 13.

Register for this virtual program, which is great for both teens and adults, at whitewaterlibrary.org.

The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Community Engagement Center are pleased to partner to present this program.

Learn when and why to perform specific maintenance tasks, including changing oil and filters, tire pressure, coolant, and much more. This class helps people be more educated consumers so they can protect their investment. 

The instructor is Chaya Milchtein, an automotive educator, writer and speaker, and founder of Mechanic Shop Femme. Her work has appeared or been featured in publications ranging from the Chicago Tribune to Shondaland. She has seven years in the auto industry under her belt and three years of virtual courses.

• Miss Wisconsin presents: Embracing Special Needs and Building Inclusive Communities, 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15.

During this virtual program, youngsters will get to meet Miss Wisconsin and learn about inclusion and acceptance.

 • Fiber Therapy Craft Group, 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27.

Do you dabble in the fiber arts? Join this virtual craft circle! Whether one knits, crochets or stitches, all are invited to unwind and unravel with fellow crafters.

Beginners and experts are welcome. This is not a formal class, attendees must supply their own crafting materials.
