Fifteen area artists’ work available for viewing at the Whitewater Cultural Arts Center

The Whitewater Arts Alliance is featuring work produced by its members.

The annual members show will be available for viewing in the Cultural Arts Center gallery, 402 West Main St., through Sunday, Dec. 18. The exhibition, featuring 15 artists and 54 pieces, will remain available for online viewing on the organization’s website throughout December, alliance manager Ashe McDarison said.

Visiting the Cultural Arts Center gallery is free and open to the public.

The gallery will remain closed for Thanksgiving through Sunday, Nov. 27.

After the Thanksgiving holiday, the gallery will update its hours. The exhibition will be available for public viewing Thursdays through Sundays, from noon to 4 p.m.

While the members show is an annual event, new this year, the exhibition has been divided into three distinct sections: pop and colorful art, traditional art, and art with a political theme, McDarison said.

Visitors to the gallery have said they appreciate the multi-sectioned approach, McDarison stated, saying of the format: “It’s like having three different exhibitions in one.”

During the members show, the alliance does not take a commission on any of the pieces sold, which, McDarison noted, is a nice perk for the members who exhibit their work.

According to McDarison, on Sunday, Nov. 20, a piece featured as part of the show and created by Whitewater Arts Alliance member Dawn Hunter, titled: “Women’s Rights Targeted,” was selected as the recipient of the Viewers Choice award.

McDarison noted that the piece selected as the viewers’ choice will be used to make multipurpose cards. She described the cards as blank on the inside, making them useful for any occasion. The winning artist is awarded 25 cards. The cards will become available for purchase early next year at a price of $2 each, McDarison said.

Additionally, during an opening reception held earlier this month, Whitewater Arts Alliance member and an artist whose work is featured in the show, John Koebler, was selected through a drawing as the recipient of a free 2023 Whitewater Arts Alliance membership.

Work from the following Whitewater Arts Alliance members and artists is included in the show: Varla Bishop, Craig Ede, M. Virginia Epps, Angela Gelasi, Hunter, Tom Jewell, Gary Kincaid, Koebler, Sylvia Linton, Jeff McDonald, Rick Santovec, Pamela See, Terry Tutton and Amy Weh.
