The Fort Atkinson-Eli Pierce Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has announced that Palmyra-Eagle High School student Kaitlyn Brodzik and Cambridge High School student Perry Thompson are among this year’s recipients of the “Good Citizen of the Year” award.
The organization names several students from area high schools annually.
Brodzik and Thompson, along with other recipients whom the organization continues to announce, will be honored during a luncheon which the organization will hold in March, chapter spokesperson Chris Spangler recently noted.
About Brodzik
According to the release, Kaitlyn Brodzik, daughter of Kevin and Jennifer Brodzik, was chosen for the recognition based on values of dependability, leadership, scholarship and service both at school and within the community.
Brodzik has a “high GPA,” the release stated, and has earned an academic letter. She also is a Laude Honor student.
Among her achievements, she has served on the school’s Student Council for three years, managed the school’s dance team, was a coordinator of a blood drive. She also is the vice-president of her school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
Further, Brodzik has served as a member of the school’s math team for three years, and participates on the cheerleading squad. She plays volleyball and was a member of the “Hope Squad,” the release stated.
Brodzik serves as a volunteered at “the local library,” the release noted.
A school administrator described her, the release stated, as “dedicated to community service, accumulating over 400 community service hours in her high school years. She possesses determination and the desire to be successful.”
Brodzik plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point or UW-LaCrosse, with an interest developing in the field of business, the release read.
“I want to get out of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities,” Brodzik was quoted as saying in the release.
About Thompson
According to the release, Perry Thompson, son or Perry and Laura Thompson, was chosen, in part, for his academic achievements.
He has placed within the top 1% of his class academically, the release noted, with a GPA of more than 4.0.
Thompson’s extracurricular activities include swimming, cross country and track. He also is a member of the National Honor Society, serving as president of his school’s chapter; Student Council; Math Team, and Academic Bowl.
Additionally, Thompson serves as a student representative on the Cambridge School Board, and is a drum major in the school’s marching band. He attended Badger Boys State last summer, the release noted.
A teacher , within the release, described Thompson as “an exceptionally inquisitive student, a natural-born leader and all around model individual.”
Thompson’s aspirations, the release reported, include “living a life of exploration of the mind … and (improving) the lives of others around me.”
His higher education plans include potentially studying political science and becoming a part of local government. He also would like to study astronomy/physics, the release stated.
