The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), within a Monday news release, has stated that Jefferson County residents will soon see some work performed on bridges along the westbound lanes of I-94.
According to the release, the work is part of a $5.7-million contract recently signed by Gov. Tony Evers for reconstruction of some I-94 bridges, with some of those monies earmarked to replace I-94 westbound bridges at Newville and Rock Lake roads in Lake Mills. Work is anticipated to begin Monday, March 11.
Sheet Piling Service, LLC, is the prime contractor for the project, the release stated, noting that the projects in Lake Mills will additionally include such improvements as “updates to bridge approaches, guardrail, pavement makings, and permanent signing.”
According to the WisDOT website, work to be performed under this contract includes the demolition of the existing I-94 westbound underpass structures at Newville Road and Rock Lake Road, construction of new I-94 westbound underpass structures and approaches at Newville Road and Rock Lake Road, reconstruction of Newville Road from 300 feet south of I-94 to 300 feet north of I-94, and reconstruction of Rock Lake Road from 350 feet south of I-94 to 350 feet north of I-94. Construction activities will include grading, asphalt paving, concrete masonry bridges, concrete barrier, beam guard, restoration, pavement marking, and signing.
During construction, I-94 will remain open to traffic under lane closures during off-peak hours. Newville Road and Rock Lake Road will be closed to through traffic; access will remain for emergency vehicles, the release advised.
Project completion is scheduled for fall 2024. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress, the release continued.
