James Place closes permanently to through traffic in February

James Place, in the city of Fort Atkinson, will be closing permanently to through traffic beginning Thursday, Feb. 1, according to information released by the city’s Superintendent of Public Works Tom Williamson.

The closure is necessary to accommodate the redevelopment of the city’s Public Works and Parks Operations facility which is situated along the road, Williamson wrote in his release.

In an effort to alert the public, the department has places signs on each end of James Place, informing motorists about the upcoming change.

Motorists can expect to find the road closed between Janesville Avenue and Talcott Street.

A recommended route for motorists traveling in the area is to make use of Hilltop Road to the south of the area to undergo closure and Rockwell Avenue to the north of the area which will undergo closure.

“Both represent easy access to Janesville Avenue and are a replacement for the James Place route,” the release noted.

“We have worked closely with the adjacent business owners to make certain they are aware of the upcoming closure and will continue to maintain the signage until Feb. 1,” Williamson wrote in his release.

In February, he wrote, the department will barricade and block the area to discourage through traffic, but allow for city personnel and equipment to access the area for daily operations.
