Mr. Brews Taphouse owner addresses council decision and pouring another round of beer

Letter to the editor:

I would like to start by thanking Mr. Ryan Whisner for his detailed coverage of the Fort Atkinson City Council meeting on Jan. 3. Secondly, the Mr Brews team and I would like to clarify that the comment mentioned in Mr. Whisner’s article claiming that “representatives of Mr Brews Taphouse were heard stating in the hallway ‘we might as well just close and give them the business’” is not accurate. The comment came from a local businessperson, not a direct Mr Brews representative.

While the outcome of this week’s proceedings is not what we had hoped, we do respect the decision of the council. We believe PaddyShack will be a great addition to the community and look forward to sharing beers across the aisle.

Immediately following the vote, our team – specifically our restaurant manager and Chief Operating Officer – spoke to the City Council, shaking hands and thanking them for their time. As they’ve continued to reiterate, no decision could benefit all parties, and we must all be empathic to the conditions of the vote.

The most important takeaway from this decision is that our brand’s mission is unchanged.

We opened our beloved Fort Atkinson location in 2017 and in those five years and counting we’ve steadily built a proud following of fans who love our brand as much as we do. While we patiently wait to throw our hat into the ring when the next Class B License becomes available, in the meantime you can be assured our doors will remain open with a cold beer waiting on tap and a fresh burger ready to be made-to-order.

We want our guests to feel like Mr Brews is their go-to neighborhood hangout where they can bring the kids on Saturdays, hang out after work with their colleagues during the week or watch football with their friends on weekends. The City Council’s decision won’t change that, and we look forward to seeing our loyal supporters, and new faces, for some more beers, laughs and great food.

Thank you,

Steve Day

Owner,  President of Mr Brews Taphouse
