Welcome to our second edition of “Readings with RadioRon.”
Developed to be similar to a 1930’s dramatic radio show, this regular segment will feature original, fictional stories written by members of the Fort Atkinson community. Selected stories will be read, with creative enhancements, by longtime radioman Ron “RadioRon”Stelse.
Today’s story, written by Oisin Riedlinger, is called: “A Paladin’s Tale.”
Riedlinger is an eighth-grade student at Fort Atkinson Middle School. The story, written by Riedlinger and showcased in this segment, was suggested by Fort Atkinson Middle School English language arts teacher Gwen Sachse.
It is the second story written by Riedlinger to be read dramatically by RadioRon.
Of writing, Riedlinger said: “I enjoy writing mainly because of the endless possibilities. No matter how many things you can or can’t do in your life, a writer can do anything purely because they make the story.
“Writers bring so much to this world because of their ability to make anything they want happen in their stories, and I love the idea of bringing someone else an emotion or a situation they might not otherwise have.
“I also like writing because of how deeply connected I have to be with the characters. As a reader, one might get the perspective of the main character, but as a writer, you get to experience the lives of every single character in the story. It almost amplifies your sense of empathy a little because you have to know how all of the characters feel.”

Ron “RadioRon” Stelse has worked within the radio industry for 45 years, including three years spent reading for the blind. He has also worked with computers, from mainframes to PCs, and serves as a tennis instructor. Among his hobbies, he enjoys computer chess, watching public TV and working on audio projects.
To submit stories: Writers or teachers looking to submit for consideration original, fictional works (submissions must not be the copyrighted works of others), may do so by sending their submissions to kbrook@ix.netcom.com. Submissions must be at least 600 words and not more than 2,000 words. Authors of selected works will be notified. By submitting works, authors give their permission to Fort Atkinson Online LLC to use and publish their works.

Awesome! Nostalgic spellbinding readings brought to us by local favorite, RadioRon and the good luck to hear an original tale spun by one of our talented Fort Atkinson Middle School students — 8th grader, Oisin Reidlinger! It’s great fun! Takes me right back to the 1940’s when my folks listened radio programs such as this. Thanks, Ron and Oisin, for sharing your talents with us.
