Whitewater: Sen. Marklein to speak at Greater Whitewater Committee meeting

The Greater Whitewater Committee (GWC) has announced it will be holding its annual meeting Thursday, Feb. 9. 

According to information released by the organization, the meeting, which is open to the public, will showcase the group’s accomplishments in 2022 and advance goals slated for 2023. 

The meeting will be held at 841 Brewhouse, 841 E. Milwaukee St., Whitewater, and begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by a keynote speaker at 6 p.m. 

Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be available during the event. 

State Sen. Howard Marklein will serve this year as the keynote speaker. 

Marklein is the co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee of the Wisconsin Legislature, and, according to the release, has “strong ties” to the Whitewater community. 

Among his community connections, the release notes that he is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a member of the UW-Whitewater National Alumni Association, and is a recent recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for his community and regional service recognized through the UW-Whitewater. Additionally, he is a former member of the Fort HealthCare Board of Directors. 

He has “lived in the area for several years,” the release stated.   

In his capacity as co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee, Marklein is among those responsible for developing the state budget, the release noted, adding that he also serves on such Legislative committees as Agriculture and Tourism, Employment Relations, Joint Audit Committee, and the Joint Legislative Council.

“We’re thrilled to have Senator Marklein speak at this year’s meeting. He has a long relationship with the city of Whitewater, and has an intricate knowledge of the state budget and offers important information for the city,” GWC President Jeffery Knight was quoted as saying in the release.
